In mid-2003, the US based aircraft manufacturer Boeing embarked upon an ambitious project to manufacture a mid-size aircraft called 787 Dreamliner. This was the first commercial aircraft being manufactured using 50 percent of composite materials. The case examines the reasons for Boeing to initiate the 787 project.
