Abstract:
Technological advancements had changed the world at a fast pace, resulting in cheaper and efficient gadgets like cell phones, video games, media devices and consumer electronics. The electrical and electronic industries became one of the fastest growing sectors, giving rise to the problem of disposal of this obsolete and unwanted used material, commonly known as electronic waste (e-Waste). This e-Waste had accumulated and grown in great proportions which led to a pressing and serious problem for the global environment. Lax rules and weak enforcement had worsened the situation. The case focuses on the various aspects of e-Waste management and its impact on the global environment.
Pedagogical Objectives:
- To discuss e-Waste, its disposal practices and the impact on the global environment.
- To discuss the role of the regulatory framework involved in e-Waste dumping.
- To discuss the ethical issues and challenges faced by the developing countries due to the dumping of e-Waste.
