KB Home: Laying the Foundation KB Home was started as Kaufman and Broad in Detroit, US by Eli Broad and Donald Kaufman in 1957 to design affordable homes for a concentrated market.Within one year of its inception, Kaufman and Broad recorded revenues of $1.7 million. The company's operations expanded quickly, and in 1962 Kaufman and Broad began its operations in Phoenix (US). In 1963, Kaufman and Broad set up its headquarters at Los Angeles. Growth Strategies In March 1996, Kaufman and Broad acquired a SanAntonio-based company Rayco builder for $110 million.
