Abstract: The case ‘Jet Airways’ Tryst with Expats’ is about the hiring of expatriate employees by Jet Airways (India) Ltd. (Jet Airways). During the course of its expansion and growth, Jet Airways recruited quite a number of expats for top level positions and as pilots. The recruitment of expats sparked resentment among the home pilots who went on strike to protest against the disparity in wages and other perks between themselves and the expat pilots.

Right from its initial years, Jet Airways had had expats as its CEO; some of them were successful but others were not, due to their cultural mismatch and incompatibility with the organization to which they had been recruited. The growth of Jet Airways is presented in the case starting with its initial years and its becoming the top airlines in India to its decline and ceasing of operations. Increased operational costs and competition from low cost airlines led to Jet Airways borrowing heavily from the banks and ultimately resulted in the airline filing for bankruptcy and closing down.
