  • Is the current financial crisis (a) a leadership crisis, or (b) a corporate governance crisis? Or is it both? Do you think that this crisis could have been averted had there been better leaders and better corporate governance structures?
The current crisis is both. The crisis could have been avoided if executives had a much deeper appreciation for the financial instruments their managers were deploying. In the financial sector, many CEOs did not fully understand how dangerous the transactions of their organizations were. They fell prey to ‘making money’ without appreciating that the how of

making money would eventually creat a crisis. The risk management systems failed completely or else were ignored in the pursuit of profit. The current crisis is an illustration of a complete lack of leadership.
