Abstract:
Operations Research (OR) is seen as a discipline of applied sciences where analytical methods are used to resolve complex situations for better decision making. There are many OR techniques such as Project Management, Game Theory, Logistics, Social Networking/Transportation Forecasting models, Queuing Theory, etc. Queuing Theory (study of waiting lines) helps in effectively
reducing waiting lines in situations such as reservation counters, cinema halls, transportation of goods etc.
Bamboo House India (BHI), started by Prashant Lingam andAruna Kappagantula, aims to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities to rural and tribal artisans in the bamboo sector. Presently, BHI is supplying bamboo products to its customers on time. With increasing demand, the enterprise is also expected to provide better service. In order to achieve this, BHI is planning to implement the queuing theory. The case study gives an understanding of how the queuing theory can be implemented in BHI.
