Abstract:
Every organisation undertakes different types of projects. In project environments,
work must be recorded, evaluated and assessed so that project performance and
other related tasks like schedules and expenditures are achieved as per the plan.
The project manager is responsible to ensure the successful completion of the
assigned project, with no deviations in deliverables and the project’s formal
closure on a specified date. The primary purpose of project evaluation is to
determine and assess the project’s relative profitability, operational working and
technical performance. The core objectives also include optimal utilisation of
scarce resources, monitoring the end results, reporting and termination.
Usually in projects, focus is towards project outcomes rather than constant evaluation and assessment of a project, resulting in loose ends. Pillar Stone Construction Ltd., a construction company faced a similar challenging situation. Inattention towards project evaluation and assessment resulted in the company deviating from project goals and compensating heavily. This case study identifies the significance of project evaluation, regular reporting and formal closing of a project. It gives an understanding of how project evaluation improves decision-making, knowledge enhancement and accountability to the organisation.
