Abstract:
Until the end of 2004, US-based energy company, Unocal Corporation, was trailing behind its peers in share price, production and net income per barrel. But, on January 6 th 2005, its share price jumped by 10% when rumours spread about its probable acquisition by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), a leading energy company in China. The company had faced environmental problems, was accused of human rights abuses and also failed to meet its production targets.
