Abstract:
Primary Health Care Ltd, a leading Australian health care company had placed a $2.65 billion takeover bid for another Australian health care company, Symbion Health Limited. The acquisition was expected to reinforce Primary's position as a leading integrated health care provider and place it among the top 100 listed companies based on market capitalisation. The deal was further expected to enlarge and improve Primary's service offering and geographic coverage and generate anticipated synergies and operational improvements of $95 million to $105 million per annum in the 2010 financial year. The acquisition was also anticipated to add to earnings per share in the 2010 year. This case is intended for MBA / PGDBM level students and is designed to be part of the business strategies and financial management curriculum.
